Plant identification app

A plant identification app that helps you care for what you find

Take a photo and PlantPeepal suggests what the plant is, how sure it is and how to look after it. Then it saves the plant to your garden, so identifying a plant is the start of caring for it, not the end.

What you get

  • The most likely species, with a confidence score
  • Close alternatives you can tap instead
  • A care summary: light, water, humidity, temperature and soil
  • A note on toxicity to people, cats and dogs when the match is confident

Photos from more than one angle

Add photos from a few angles, such as the whole plant, a close-up of a leaf and a flower if there is one. You can review them before PlantPeepal identifies the plant.

Choose the right match

PlantPeepal shows its best match with a confidence score, along with close alternatives. Lookalike plants are common, so compare the leaves and flowers with the alternatives and tap one if it fits better. If you already know the plant, you can type its name instead.

From a name to a care plan

Once you confirm a match, place the plant in your garden. It gets care guidance and joins your care calendar. When the match is confident, PlantPeepal also shows whether the plant is listed as toxic to people, cats or dogs.

How it works

Three steps to get started

  1. 1

    Photograph the plant

A few clear photos from different angles work best.

  2. 2

    Review the match

Check the confidence score and the alternatives, and pick the best fit.

  3. 3

    Add it to your garden

Your plant joins the care calendar with guidance to match.

Who it's for

  • New gardeners naming plants they inherited with a garden
  • Houseplant buyers whose plant came without a label
  • Parents and pet owners who want to check a plant's toxicity listing
  • Anyone curious about a plant they spotted

Frequently asked questions

Is the plant identification free?
Yes. Identifying plants is included in the free plan, which lets you track up to 25 plants.
Can it identify any plant?
It can suggest a species for most plants photographed clearly, but no identifier is perfect, especially with lookalike species. Check the confidence score and the alternatives before you confirm.
What happens after I identify a plant?
You can add it to your garden, where it gets care guidance, a place in your care calendar and a page for photos and care history.
